Emergency Preparedness Week Video 2023

Transcript

Hello, I’m Bill Blair, Canada’s Minister of Emergency Preparedness.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada,

and the theme is “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.”

Over the past few years, Canadians have seen a remarkable increase in natural disasters and extreme weather events.

And as these climate-related events increase in both frequency and severity in communities right across Canada,

we know that we all have a role to play—from individuals, to first responders, and all orders of government—

to make sure that we are aware of the risks, and taking steps to be prepared for them.

Because when we improve our awareness and understanding, we can build our collective strength and resiliency as a country.

So, this week, let’s take action and be prepared.

Assemble an emergency kit with basic items from around your household.

Create an emergency plan for your family.

And visit getprepared.ca to learn more about wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, and hurricanes,

so that you know what to do before, during and after a disaster.

We’ll always be there to support our brave first responders, search and rescue volunteers and emergency managers who work tirelessly to keep us all safe.

And this Emergency Preparedness Week, please join me in supporting them—by making sure that you’re prepared as well.

Thank you everyone, and be safe.
