Get Prepared's Twitter account (@Get_Prepared) is managed by our Communications Directorate.

Please note: This account is not to be contacted if you have an emergency. You should call 9-1-1 to report a crime, fire or save a life. For less urgent emergencies, please call the 10-digit number for your local police, fire or health services.

Content and Frequency

We post relevant and timely messages on emergency preparedness, and may also occasionally post other safety-related information.

If you follow @Get_Prepared, you can expect to receive information, which may include (but not limited to):

We will occasionally retweet content that we believe is of value to our audience. This is especially likely when the content is related to the emergency preparedness inCanada.

Tweet Hours

We monitor and update @Get_Prepared between 8am and 5pm E.S.T. Monday to Friday, excluding holidays observed in Ontario.

During emergency situations, we provide additional coverage as required.

We accept no responsibility for Twitter downtime.

Replies and Direct Messages

We read all @replies, comments and direct messages sent to us. We will respond in the official language (English or French) of the user's choice.

We encourage posts that are on topic, respectful and allow for further discussion.

We will ignore comments that contain inappropriate material as outlined below.

We also don't engage on issues of party politics.

Following and Followers

We do not auto-follow. If organizations follow us on Twitter, we may follow them back.

We may also follow individuals who identify themselves as having an interest in emergency preparedness.

Please note that being followed by @Get_Prepared does not imply endorsement of any kind.

Official Languages

Tweets will be posted in both official languages - in English on the @Get_Prepared account, and in French on the @Preparez-vous account. @Replies and direct messages that require a response will be answered in the official language of origin.

Users should be aware that some links direct users to sites of organizations or other entities that are not subject to the Official Languages Act.

Accessibility

Get Prepared's Twitter account is not a Government of Canada website. Users are encouraged to read the privacy policy of all such third-party service providers, including Twitter.

Information shared with the @Get_Prepared account is subject to the provisions of the Access to Information Act, the Privacy Act and the Library and Archives Canada Act, which means that the information may be accessed and disclosed in response to a request under any of these acts. Users are advised not to share personal information including home addresses and telephone numbers.
